S Janaki rejects the Padma award

Well known playback singer S Janaki has declined the Padma Bhushan award, which was announced recently. She has stated that she is indeed happy that the government has chosen her for the award but she feels that it has come so late in her life.

According to the 78-year-old singer, she was not interested in the Padma honours and would accept only a Bharat Ratna.

S Janaki has been a prolific singer and has sung in all the south Indian languages. She has won four national awards.

Christian groups protest over Romans

Director Boban Samuel’s Romans, starring Kunchacko Boban and Biju Menon, has miffed certain Christian groups. The film, which has been inspired by yesteryear Robert De Niro-Sean Penn Hollywood hit We’re No Angels, has two convicts being accepted as priests by some villagers after some confusions.

Moroever, there are some scenes that show the infighting between some of the bishops. All these have irked some Christian groups have come out in open protesting against the film.

However, the film is a big hit and the poor performances of the recent releases are expected to help Romans in gaining more collections.

BASIC PLOT: Raja Raja Kamat (Mammootty) and Deva Raja Kamat (Dileep) run a vegetarian restaurant chain. Some issues crop up as they try to buy the old Sree Krishna Vilasom Hotel in Palakkad. There they meet municipal secretary Mahalakshmi (Rima) and her sister Rekha (Karthika). From then on, some romance and fights will make the characters forget about everything else.

REVIEW: One of the worst films to have released during recent times. First, Mammootty and Dileep start their mimicry saying Malayalam mixed with Konkani in a silly way. Then the story meanders along aimlessly with nothing much to narrate.

Bad script, bad direction, bad performances, bad comedy… the list can go on and on. But what for? Is someone really serious about this film?

Why would an actor like Mammootty say yes to this film? Is Dileep an actor or a mimicry artiste? How come Siby and Udayakrishna manage to fool everyone else with their half-baked scripts? And did anyone ask Dhanush to act in Kamat & Kamat at gunpoint? He looks totally lost in the cameo.

Forget Kamat & Kamat like a bad dream.

FINAL VERDICT: A total waste of time and money. An absolute disaster!
